scenes from the weekend

Whew, is it Monday already? I'm pooped. So here's an abbreviated version of the weekend:

Mullet Removal/First Haircut (Cooper was starting to look like an 80s hearthrob, which was not cool.) Avery was our official photographer. The photos are all pretty funny.

Sewing-in with the Anchorage Modern Quilt Guild. We made some improv blocks a la Denyse Schmidt and ate some of the best cookies and cinnamon rolls ever. I also started a super secret project for Rob that will hopefully be revealed next week.

Do I look tired? Because I am. Drama-free teething no longer exists in this house.

SNOW! It stuck to the mountains, but we got a bunch of flakes down low too. Winter is on it's way!

Lasagna for dinner-- and the next couple of days for lunch. Good stuff. In fact, it's the best lasagna recipe you could ever make and has been the only one I've used since I was in high school. If you want it, let me know.

And have I mentioned how much I love my blogging friends? It's good to be a Krista.

It's 25 degrees outside right now at my house. Here's hoping it's a bit warmer where you're at! Have a good week!

and we finally meet!

The Anchorage Modern Quilt Guild met for the first time last night!

I have to admit that I was so incredibly nervous to start this branch of the Modern Quilt Guild. I wasn't even sure that anyone would show up to last night's meeting! But my fears were unfounded, and now I am so excited about where this group is going.

We had nine women attend. The general consensus is to make the Guild a learning group, where we can be inspired and learn new skills and techniques to enhance our own quilts. We already have next month's activity planned-- JoAnn is going to teach us all to make cathedral windows using an origami folding technique! I can't wait.

Today is the last day of school! I'm up early and about to go finish the binding on my Funky Momo quilt. Gotta knock down those finishes.

Anchorage Modern Quilt Guild

Anchorage needed its own branch of The Modern Quilt Guild. After crossing my fingers for awhile that someone else would start one, I decided to just go ahead and do it myself! I know so many great modern quilters through flickr and blogging, but very few locally, and I know there has to be more of us here. We have a huge quilting community after all!

So this afternoon I went to the local quilt shops and started handing out information. It was fun to talk it up, and it sounds like people are excited to help spread the word. Sandy at Seams Like Home even offered their class space for our first meeting on May 19th!

So here we go! If you're local, join the group! I think it's going to be a lot of fun.
