mini for Cooper

Ever since we moved the girls down into their new room after our remodel, Cooper has been staying in the ultra-ghetto leftovers of their old room. Picture macaroni and cheese colored walls no longer set off with cool green furniture, beach towels nailed over the windows, and Harry Potter posters tacked up everywhere. It wasn't the little boy's room I had envisioned, but Cooper wasn't complaining. And Rob and I were really tired of painting.

the girls' old room

I think I mentioned a few posts ago that Anchorage is having a grey, dreary summer. Thanks to yet another rainy Saturday morning, we decided to scrap our cabin plans and stay home to get work done. Coop's room got painted the same schoolboy blue that was leftover from our master bathroom (yay for being cheap!), blinds replaced the beach towels, and I even managed to hang the John Golden artwork I had ordered ages ago.

While the paint was drying, I thought I'd try my hand at a little mini quilt for the corner.

This was a quickie-- other than the little piece of Echino bike fabric, everything came from my scrap basket. I didn't even iron anything until the top was pieced. Just sewed, slashed, and sewed some more. I practiced more free motion quilting on it too. Although it's definitely not a technical quilting masterpiece, I love how it turned out. Next up is bunting for over Cooper's crib and a bunch of decorating in the girls' room (which I'll show in an upcoming post). Phew. Just thinking of it makes me feel like doing this:

We were able to take advantage of a few hours of sunshine on Friday to go hike up Arctic Valley, so the weekend wasn't all work, thank goodness.

These kinds of weekends always end up being my favorite. When we get stuff done, our family gets outside, and then I get a bit of creative time, I'm happy. Hope you had a great weekend too!

Hi! I found your blog via Leah Day`s blog. I have just got my Horizon and I am interested in what experiences other quilters have with this machine.Beautiful picture you have made! Besides sewing, I also love to walk in the mountains, and would like to follow your blog.
