the best ever gift- a collaborative quilt from my friends

It's been almost a month since I recieved the most amazing gift in the mail. When I first saw this quilt, peeking out of the top of the box, I started crying. Well, it was less like crying and more like full blown sobbing that lasted for hours. I'm not even kidding. It's taken this long for me to be able to share this with you all because every time I try to type up a blog post, I start to cry all over again. It's that special to me.

the best ever gift

Months ago, my dear friend Krista (aka lolablueocean/k2/SeattleKrista) organized a private group of other amazing friends on flickr and set forth to make me a baby quilt. After I received the quilt, I was invited into the group and got to see all of the planning and discussion that went into their collaboration. Each person made a block or two, and then Krista joined them together, added many more of her own blocks, and completed the quilt. (Knowing how busy she is with her work and her own family, I'm still amazed that she pulled this off.) It's double sided and much larger than just a baby quilt. I've wrapped myself up in it and plan on it keeping both me and the new baby warm during what I expect to be many middle of the night nursing sessions.

Avery, Claire, and Cooper received the sweetest gifts as well. They felt so special to be included in the package.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again-- the friendships I've made through this blog and flickr are just as real and meaningful as the ones I have with friends that I get to see in person. I've been lucky to meet a few of my online friends and am excited to meet more in the future. I feel so grateful for each one of you!

So thank you again Krista, Felicity, Carol, Amy, Penny, Tamiko, Jenny, Angela, Kerry, Amber, Anna, Krista, Dan, Muriel, Marilyn, Lucinda, Suzanne, Charise, and Pat. You sure know how to make a big old pregnant lady feel good. Well, after all the crying was done anyway. xo

Amazing quilt! I love the words and how it all goes together so well!

I also had a collaborative quilt made for me when I was pregnant with my second. It's an awesome gift that we use everyday, even more than the quilt that I made him myself!

That would make me weep, too! Just gorgeous. What wonderful work - so special! What is truly amazing about it is that it doesn't look like it was made by a bunch of people since it seems to belong to a singular vision... love it.

This is the most amazing baby quilt I've ever seen. It made me tear up. I almost thought I was going to start crying as I read the words on the quilt (in my defense I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant). What wonderful friends.
