basting and quilting...

... are not going well! Argh!

I decided to pin baste instead of using spray, which has been my norm lately. I ran out of safety pins. Some swear words may have come out of my mouth. Even more came out when I left to see if I could find more pins, and came back to find a muddy dog laying right in the middle of my half-basted quilt. I decided to spray baste the rest instead of risking leaving it on the floor to go buy more pins. It's much easier to deal with, and I should have done that in the first place.

Quilting is also going horribly. I decided I'd do loops. Thread keeps breaking. I quilted one corner of the quilt to the middle of it. How, I do not know. And I found out I suck at loops. It will look better once it's washed, right? (deep breath)

On a good note, I received my quilt from the Doll Quilt Swap the other day! It's hanging in my sewing room where I can see it all the time, and I love it. Thanks Carla!

oh man....this is not going well. i hope that all works out for you and this quilt. these are the kinds of things that would make me put away a project and try it again some other time.

Awesome doll quilt!!! I'm sorry you're not happy with the quilting - I can't see the loops very well in the photo, but we are always our own worst critics so I'm pretty sure they are not 'horrible'!. Idea: try removing your big acrylic table and see if it is easier to feed the quilt into the machine. I find my bigger quilts get 'stuck' on the edge of the extension table, creating too much drag. Just a thought, hope it helps. If all else fails, you can always count on wine. I find I am much more enamored with my fm results when I've had a glass prior to starting, and second one prior to checking results....

Eek! Muddy dogs and quilts just don't mix.

I spray baste as well. I've never had any of the problems that the purists write about. Never. The key is a very light coating...or so I've found.

The crinkles of a washed and dried quilt are miracle cures for a multitude of sins. I wouldn't worry a smidge. And I love it, by the way.

What a nice doll quilt! I am sorry to hear about the pinning problems and dog. It must be a week for it. I spent all of my baby's 2 hour nap yesterday using my seam ripper on a border that puckered in a few places. And after hitting my hand several times on one of the levers while trying to sew....a few dirty words escaped my mouth. Good thing I was alone. So far it is going well today...we will see if I can get back in the swing of things.

Oh, I'm sorry! The dog would make me crazy. I just bought some spray adhesive to use on my next quilt. I've used pins in the past and I don't seem to be a very good quilter :( I hope the spray adhesive helps! If you know a good how to article that helped you on spray basting or have any tips for me, do let me know :)

The quilt you are working on is just gorgeous, by the way!

wow, sorry you're having a frustrating time. I would be so so mad if our dog came and got something as beautiful as that dirty, but yes, washing always makes things better. can't wait to see the loopy quilting, I've been wanting to try something other than straight lines for a while now...
