Remember this?
Well, the quilt is finished! I sent the top off to Krista (who now has her own blog going, so go check it out!) and she worked her long arm magic on it. She used a baptist fan pattern that ended up being just right-- the quilting is so soft, and our kids said that the fans look like rainbows! Perfect!
The quilting was done a couple of weeks ago, but I just got around to putting on the binding this weekend. Claire was so excited to have it on her bed. Since I hadn't taken photos yet, I joked with her that I hoped she wouldn't spill anything on it! Just three days later, there is already a big splotch of mystery purple something staining it. Sigh. Kids!
It's backed with a super soft flannel from Anna Maria Horner's LouLouthi line (coreopsis in teal) and bound with a crazy floral that Claire picked from my stash. I had planned to use a black and white binding, but when I make things for my kids I let them make the final design decisions. I think the one she chose is more fun!
I tried to get some full shots but I just can't bring myself to get on a ladder to hang this beast. My third trimester belly is getting in the way. But you understand, right?
It feels really good to have bed quilts made for both of the girls (although I won't be able to share the one I made for Avery for a long time since it's part of an upcoming book). A few people have asked if I've done any sewing for the new baby yet. Um, do four burp cloths count? He/she will be sharing a room with Cooper, so I'm gathering fabrics to make new bedding for both the crib and his toddler bed. I've dreamt of sewing teeny pants and bibs and all sorts of other things, but I'm running short on time. Hopefully the nesting urge will kick in soon.

Oh, what an amazingly gorgeous quilt. I LOVE everything about it, from the fabric, to the quilting, and the binding. It's just so pretty and colorful, so perfect for a little girl.
that's a beautiful quilt
Beautiful Krista! Ugh, the purple stain must hurt. Lily got a stain right in the middle of the quilt I made for her bed too. Kids!
Those fans are perfect!
This is so incredibly stunning...I'm in love!!
Krista, it's beautiful - I love that the fan quilting = rainbows. Perfect, perfect.
Claire's quilt turned out beautiful!
this quilt top was amazing to begin with but the fans quilting took it to a whole new level. your friend is so talented!
It looks great!!! I love her binding choice!!!!
That purple stain makes me laugh! A good quilt is one that is loved, I like that! xoxo
What a great quilt! Love it.
Krista, that is just stunning! It was beautiful befoer but is beyond that now! I backed my hexie quilt in that very same Loulouthi and now I have to make 3 more because everyone fights over the 'snuggle' quilt!
This is just beautiful!
Awesomesauce. The fans are perfect, as is your design of the rainbow borders. What a great quilt for Claire. Good call not getting up on a ladder, of course we understand!
Don't worry about stocking up on baby clothes yet, I'm sure you'll find time to escape to your sewing room and whip up a pair of wiggle pants now and then - you're so fast!
Any signs of spring yet?
This looks fantastic, Krista!
i am over the moon in love with this! the quilting is amazing! seriously, amazing!!!
It's fabulous!!!! Congrats for finishing it!
It's beautiful! What a lucky girl she is to have a bright and beautiful rainbow quilt. I agree, the quilting looks like rainbows and suits the quilt perfectly!
*love* the quilt (the colors... the quilting...)! what a lucky girl to have such a colorful quilt on her bed.
I have a suggestion for the stain: Biokleen BacOut. it's often sold in natural food stores and it's an enzyme-based cleaner that 'eats' stains, sometimes right before your eyes. just spray and let sit. it's saved countless (I'm not exaggerating)fabric lovelies in our home. it's a must-have for families with kids. (or pets.) (or messy people.)
So very beautiful! And even more so with the bright blue binding. :) I bet it looks lovely all spread out on Claire's bed. And I don't blame you one bit for staying off the ladder! ;)
It turned out lovely!!
It turned out lovely! We have a quilt that's all bright like this too and it's a ray of sunshine in the winter.
Quilting makes such a difference! I love the before quilting and the after quilting pictures! ♥♥♥
